Trust, Transparency & Digitalization in Denmark

Registration required: https://mit.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_4B1ouyJmQAu4Oyn1KrKsjg

Denmark is among the most digital countries in the EU according to the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) by the European Commission, and it was named the most digital country in the world in the International Digital Economy and Society Index 2018. But at a time when the threat for misuse of data is real and new concerns about data ethics are emerging, are Danes being too naïve? Or could their high standards on digital responsibility and transparency lead the way to a more harmonized digital future?

Join our discussion about digitalization in the Scandinavian context with Søren Juul Jørgensen, former CEO at the Innovation Center Denmark in Silicon Valley, research fellow at the Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Stanford University and Founder of Forest Avenue and Rasmus Hauch, Chief Technology Officer at 2021.AI. This session will be moderated by Kathleen Thelen, Ford Professor of Political Science at MIT and Faculty Director for the MIT-Denmark Program.

Register today!

This webinar is part of the MIT-Denmark data-driven future series. In this series, we will focus on digitalization in a Scandinavian context and the role trust has played and continues to play in digitizing Denmark. We will discuss digitalization of everyday activities and public services, how tech artificial intelligence can used to make the world a little greener, as well as some of the challenges we face in an increasingly high-tech society.

Webinar: The Urban Opportunity - City/Business Collaboration for Sustainable Solutions

Mayors of the world's biggest, most influential cities are setting ambitious targets to mitigate emissions. However, countries and cities cannot act alone and will require considerable support from the private sector to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and SDG 11. At the same time, businesses recognize the risks that climate change poses. How can city mayors and businesses translate their global climate commitments into practical actions that limit global temperature rise to 1.5’C?

Join Danfoss, the City of Copenhagen and MIT Sustainable Design Lab for a look at the example of EnergyLab Nordhavn and discussion of how Denmark’s organizations are coming together to meet sustainability goals and combat climate change.

Panelists: Jonas Loholm Hamann, Communication & Public Affairs Advisor, Danfoss Cooling & Jørgen Abildgaard, Project Director for the 2025 Carbon Neutral strategy and plan for the City of Copenhagen

Moderator: Alpha Yacob Arsano, Research Assistant at the MIT Sustainable Design Lab and PhD Candidate in Building Technology

We hope for this session to be as interactive as possible, so please come with your thoughts for a Q&A, or feel free to send us a question in advance via the RSVP form.

Webinar: Flexible Housing for Future Societies

Our societies are changing. Can architecture reflect these changes and propose solutions to our evolving housing needs? In Denmark, 66% of families are traditional nuclear families living together, but 44% are either co-parenting, single, in an open relationship, or in another living arrangement. Community spaces and nearby amenities are considered necessities, but lack of available or affordable housing in cities such as Copenhagen presents a challenge. Additionally, global climate change and the current COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted issues and new directions for housing and societies. How can we design future cities to adapt and accommodate the growing need for flexible housing solutions?

Join Ofri Earon, Architect, PhD, Social Sustainable Housing at Ramboll for a discussion of these topics and Q&A, moderated by Janelle Knox-Hayes, Associate Professor of Economic Geography and Planning and Head, Environmental Policy and Planning Group in the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP).

We hope for this session to be as interactive as possible, so please come with your thoughts for a Q&A, or feel free to send us a question in advance via the RSVP form.
